Health
In 1948 health was defined as "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”.
It is important to maintain good health, starting with a healthy diet and exercise. Achieving and maintaining health is an ongoing process throughout life. Modern day medicine has become very advanced. Having increased knowledge and understanding; people are living an average 20 years longer now than in the past.
This is positive, though it is argued that evolution has a part to blame for our modern day health problems. The subtle pressures of human evolution could explain the rise of certain disorders. Disorders such as autism, autoimmune diseases, and reproductive cancers are said to of developed through evolution. Researchers have speculated that certain adaptations, that once benefited us, may now be helping the disorders persevere in spite of the advancements in modern culture and medicine.
Most recently the biggest health issue has been obesity, especially in children. Britain now has the highest rates of gullet cancer, where in other parts of Europe it is declining. Experts have linked this disease with the condition of acid reflux. This acid reflux increases with obesity and fatty foods. So to conclude this disease is highly related to obesity. Gullet cancer cases in Britain have increased resulting in over 6,000 deaths a year; twice than the Europeans average.
